This is doctor Julie huffed Meyer with our opening anesthesia inter operative T. E. case of the month for may 2013. Each month we feature an operative case which teaches or emphasize an important aspect of basic inter operative T. E.. Our case this month is a 79 year old woman with a past medical history significant for hyper cholesterol Limia hypertension myxomatosis mitral valve regurgitation and squamous cell cancer of her tongue treated with surgical resection radiation. She was admitted to the hospital after several weeks of fever malaise and weakness. She was found to have septic impolite to her brain Sputnik infarct and cutaneous abscess to the area over her right clavicle. Preoperative trans thoracic echocardiogram feet revealed severe mitral regurgitation and a large post here mitral leaflet mass consistent with the vegetation from likely infective endocarditis.
