The lockdown in Melbourne that is ending tonight has once again raised questions about our responses to outbreaks of COVID in the future. The official national policy was one of suppressing COVID-19 until a vaccine is available with the goal of no local community transmission. Australia has been relatively successful at this, but vaccines are now available, and the rollout is starting to accelerate.
