2019 has been a year of protests around the world: from France, with the most recent demonstrations against Macron's pension reform and the leaderless Yellow Vest protests; to Chile and Hong Kong, with a mix of social and political grievances. It proved contagious: in the Arab world, leaderless movements brought down not one but two longtime strongmen in Algeria and Sudan. In Lebanon, ordinary citizens are rejecting systems built on sectarian power-sharing. They are also fed up with mismanagement and corruption.
