Mitral regurgitation measurement: vena contracta and SAM

This is doctor Julie health Meyer with our open the anesthesia intra operative T. E. case of the month for January 2017. Each month we feature an operative case which teaches or emphasizes an important aspect of basic intro operative T. E.. Our patient this month is a 50 year old woman with a past medical history of hypertension and diabetes mellitus who presented with worsening shortness of breath. Her pre operative work up included echo cardiogram feet and cardiac catheterization which revealed severe mitral regurgitation with normal left ventricular ejection fraction. And normal coronary arteries. She presented to the operating room for my actual valve repair versus replacement.
