Assistive Technology: Using What You Got To Get What You Want

published 2 months ago by Dr. Frederick B. Covington

What assistive technology does most of our clients/patients/students already have? Answer: Mobile phones and tablets These devices allow for several beneficial functions that many may not be aware of. Instead of occupational therapists, speech pathologists, or teachers/educational professionals ordering expensive 'specialized' equipment, always take the time to explore what is already on hand. Sit down for a moment with your clients' mobile devices and explore the many pre-installed options that comes with the phone. Many times there is no need to even download an app.  This not only decreases any new learning curve that one may encounter with new equipment but it saves money.
