Welcome nice to have you here so tonight's event is in collaboration with the Berkeley food institute and Goldman school of public policy tonight I'm really pleased to introduce secretary Karen Ross she's been the secretary of the California department of food and agriculture we were talking earlier about how the federal government hasn't gotten it yet that it really should be dealing with food as well as agriculture and she's been that since 1/12/2011 she's as secretary focused on protecting California's agriculture in a time of significant budget reductions she's initiated programs to provide greater opportunities for farmers and ranchers to engage in sustainable environmentally sound stewardship practices with respect to the production of food ...
